Early Intervention Programs

In collaboration with partner organizations including local Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) branches and Alberta Health Services, Aspen View offers a range of early invention programs within its schools.

Within Athabasca County, the following Early Intervention Programs are facilitated by Athabasca County Family & Community Support Services through Aspen View Public Schools.

Home Alone Program

Home alone

The Home Alone Program is designed to provide children 10 years of age and older with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied.

The program focuses on small group discussions, problem solving, role-playing and instructor-led demonstrations, covering such topics as:

  • Establishing a routine
  • House key is your responsibility
  • Strangers
  • Telephone
  • Feeling scared
  • Fires
  • Storms
  • Emergencies
  • Basic First Aid
  • Internet Safety

GLOW (Girls Leading Others Wisely)

GLOW Girls Leading Others Wisely

GLOW is a program designed for girls ages 11-16, offered in small groups over six weekly 45-minute sessions. Program topics include:

  • Authenticity
  • Friendship power
  • Body image and changes
  • Valuing yourself and others
  • Positive self-talk
  • Decision making
  • Leading others wisely
  • Taking care of yourself

Kool to be Kind

Kool to be KindKool to be Kind is a program designed and adapted for students ages 8-15, offered over six weekly 45-minute sessions. Program topics include:

  • Positive options
  • Expect and respect opinions
  • Agree to resolve
  • Communication and compromise
  • Effective solutions

 

Little Mermaids

Little MermaidsLittle Mermaids is a program designed and adapted for girls ages 6-9, offered over six weekly 45-minute sessions. Program topics include:

  • Healthy friendships
  • Complimenting others
  • Feelings and emotions
  • I-messages
  • Accepting differences

Pleased To Be Me

Pleased To Be Me

Pleased To Be Me is an six-week social skills development program that focuses on feelings identification, problem solving, communication, specialness and anger management. Co-facilitated by AHS - Mental Health & Addictions, the program is offered to students in Grades 4, 5 and 6. The program can be modified to fit school schedules. The program provides information and it is grouped with group activities to make it interesting and fun!
